The first part of any wall building is the setting out and excavation of your foundations. To ensure a strong long lasting wall A good solid foundation must be dug out to the required dimentions and a minimum depth of 250mm of concrete poured in before any retaining wall is constructed on it.
EXCAVATION OF FOUNDATIONS
This job will require a large amount of soil removal so make sure your skip is as close to the excavation works as possible, and remember to make sure that you have a valid certificate from the local council to place a skip on the public road outside your property, and proper safety signs must be put in order, as public saftey must be taken into account.
THE RETAINING WALL CONSTUCTION
Always calculate the correct amount of materials, bricks and mortar that you will require for your wall construction so you don't order more or less than required, but allow approx 5% extra for breakage.
Install wall weepers to allow water to escape correctly.
INSTALLATION OF LINEAR CHANNEL DRAIN
It is always wise to install a linear channel drain at the inner side of the wall to allow for proper water drainage of the terraced patio area.
THE BACKFILLING AND COMPACTION
When backfilling use type 1 aggregate and compact with a vibrating compactor plate to the requred height and allow for a thickness of 30 - 40mm of slablaying mortar and the average thickness of your chosen paving to go on top remembering to catch your finished floor levels & the top of your staircase.
THE PATIO PAVING LAYING PATERN & DESIGN
Random laying is made easier with patio feature kits that eliminates the need for cutting the paving stones. Most patio kits are available on a single pallet complete with laying instructions. for larger areas, simply buy more kits.
TO ADD COPINGS AND THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Natural limestone paving is an extremley hard-wearing and low maintenance paving. It may however, contain minor imperfections and differance of colour variation. This does not affect the performance of the paving. In fact this gives it more charm.
